You're engaged! Now what?

The day you’ve been wishing and hoping for has finally come….you’re engaged to the love of your life! Before any talk of the wedding can even happen, you have to celebrate! Rejoice with your friends, family, future in-laws but also, and most importantly, celebrate with each other. Go to your favorite restaurant, pop a favorite bottle of wine (or our personal fave, CHAMPAGNE!) or reminisce back at your first date spot.

Then, let the planning begin:

INSURE YOUR RING

You’ll want to do this ASAP if your fiancé hasn’t done so already. You can go about the insurance in one of two ways: through your home insurance by adding it on as a rider or through a jewelry insurance company. If your ring didn’t come with an appraisal, you’ll need to get it appraised in order to get it insured. Your local jeweler can help you out with that!

SET A BUDGET

While discussing money can be a bit of an uncomfortable subject, it needs to be done early on. Costs add up quickly and you’ll want to be sure you are spending money in ways that are important to your wedding vision. You’ll also want to start saving money if need be!

DETERMINE YOUR THEME

No, we aren’t talking about themes you’d find in an aisle of Party City. We are talking about the look and feel of your day. Do you want it to be a romantic garden party, timeless elegance, boho chic or one of the millions of options in between? This will help you land the perfect venue, but also determine where other big budget items you may want to add in.

MAKE A GUEST LIST

When you start looking at venues, they will almost immediately ask you what your guest count will be. You want to be sure you are booking a venue that is large enough to fit all of your guests, but not so big it seems sparse. Your guest list will also go hand-in-hand with your budget. Once you start the venue hunt, you’ll get an idea of what you’ll be comfortable spending per person and can further tailor your guest count/budget to fit that.

SET A DATE

Every vendor you work with will ask you this right away. If you don’t have a preference, then that keeps your options more open than if you have an exact date. It’s okay to be completely open, or have a preference of season. It may be helpful to talk to your family to ensure they don’t have any plans that would interfere with your date.
